
Raised in Saskatchewan, Dick came to Toronto to study advertising Illustration at the Ontario College of Art, now OCAD University.
After graduating from OCA, increasing amounts work from a growing list of advertising, corporate and publishing clients in both Canada and the USA turned into a career as a freelance illustrator that lasted nearly 30-years.
Since then, many of the summer months from 2002 to 2016 have been spent travelling and painting en plein air in Canada from coast to coast, and in the Western States of the U.S.A.
More recently, en plein air and studio paintings of the field patterns, traditional rural architecture, and animals of the farms of Wellington, Huron, Bruce and Gray Counties have become Dick’s main artistic interests.
Dick and his wife artist Judy French currently maintain a home and studios in the picturesque of Village of Elora, Ontario.
